Fighting for a Safer Rockingham: 3-Point Plan to Reduce Crime and Family Violence

​

Rockingham is a growing community; however, this rapid growth is straining our already inadequate infrastructure and support services sector. Rising crime and one of the highest rates of family and domestic violence (FDV) in our area have left residents feeling unsafe. Family assaults in Rockingham have increased by 26% since 2017, and statewide breaches of Violence Restraining Orders (VROs) have risen by 33%, with overall family-related violence up by 39%. Despite these alarming trends, the Rockingham Police Station opens during limited hours, Monday to Friday from 8 am to 4 pm, and our local women’s refuges are at capacity.

 

As our population continues to expand, we urgently need a fully resourced 24-hour police station, increased judicial support, and increased funding for Family violence, community support services and accommodation to protect our community and ensure a safer future for all.

 

I am fighting for:

A fully resourced 24/7 Police Station in Rockingham. A fully resourced 24-hour police station will ensure immediate response to incidents, deter criminal activity, provide a constant safe haven for those in distress, and create a stronger sense of safety and security strengthening community trust, making Rockingham a safer place for all.

 

Increased investment in family violence support services. Ensuring families receive the help they urgently need. This means expanding and strengthening support services, raising awareness, and ensuring easy access to vital resources. By taking these actions, we can relieve the pressure on our local refuges and ensure families have access to the critical support they deserve.

 

Increased Judicial Support Services. We need to expedite court cases and ensure that victims receive timely justice and the support they need. This approach will also enhance the monitoring and rehabilitation of offenders, reducing the risk of repeat offenses. Our community deserves prompt and effective justice to ensure safety and restore confidence in our judicial system.
